Save Money and Energy With These Tips

We know that homeowners are having to deal with rising energy prices, so it makes sense to try and reduce the central heating costs any way we can. Here are some essential tips for cutting down those central heating costs that eat into your wages each month. Even small changes will add up to big savings over the course of this cold winter! 1. Head down to the basement and reduce the setting on your hot water thermostat by about 10 degrees. Of course, use your own judgement, but you will probably find that you don’t need to go below 120 degrees with the thermostat temperature. 2. Its something that many people neglect, but in addition to changing the temperature, you should also clean out the filters of your boiler to make sure that nothing is preventing it from working properly. Of course, no-one wants to find their boiler filters filthy, so it may be the case that you need to call the professionals out to take a look and give it a boiler service at the same time, just so you can rest assured that your central heating is working properly. 3. As well as noting the above, leaks can be a common problem in a home with central heating, so you may want to double check for anything untoward so you can mention it to your heating supplier. In fact, any leaks could be making your energy bills much higher than they need to be, and the worst part is that you’re not actually benefiting from getting any more heat for the costly price of your bills! Its fine if you don’t trust yourself to do this though, because the central heating experts can come over and sort it for you. This expert can also clean your ducts for added efficiency. 4. Just by turning the thermostat down it can knock quite a bit of money off your energy bills. The savings here can actually be quite considerable, so don’t underestimate the importance of this. When the bill comes through you will be glad you did this. 5. While we are on the subject of thermostats, consider replacing yours if it is not programmable. By doing this, you will have much more control over when your house should heat up, and equally when it should cool down. The great thing about this is that you can have a lovely warm house just before you arrive home, as the thermostat will only program heating and hot water as you want it to be. These aren’t too expensive and are easy to install and configure yourself. Your central heating bills could be slashed in half if you follow the advice herein. The great thing is that a lot of the advice included here can be done quickly and easily, so it is very little hassle to get it sorted. There has never been a better time to start making those necessary changes to your energy bills.
