A Few years or decades ago the idea of a (single) female investing in a property herself would have been absolutely improbable. Whilst it may have been unimaginable years ago, in todays society a lot of women now have the financial security to be able to purchase a property of their own. This trend of single, professional woman investing in a property seems to be growing in intensity. Whilst it may have been correct many years ago, the young woman who left school with no accomplishments and their sole aim was to marry and stay at home with the children, is no longer the case. Many young girls today are now going up to university and qualifying as young professional women, though it is still a male influenced world. To supply some proof for these statements, I give you the results of some current polls. At the end of 2009, 44% of women who were asked what the most significant thing about being a house owner, replied “financial security” according to the 3rd annual TD Canada Trust Women and Home Ownership Poll. That signifies a 21 percent jump from 2008. The next best thing about house ownership is, according to the women who responded, not having to pay rent or simply not having pay to anyone every week or month to be allowed to stay in their place of stay. Of the women who took part in the questioning, 38% came back with this choice. That is a quite a telling jump from 13 percent in 2008. The typical age of a first time house buyer is said to be 29, of which over 80% are single women, according to the IPSOS-Reid poll. Fifty per cent of those women have university degree’s and 80% don’t have children, which is not really a surprise. As a (female) Real estate agent from Toronto I understand Whilst this may seems great news, other news doesn’t look so good. In spite of this very amiable trend, men, even in the same post usually earn marginally more than women, no matter whether they are better or worse. Statistics still show that women purchasing houses by themselves have more chance of running into problems, such as paying off a mortgage, than their male counterparts or if they were part of a married couple.
